#Berdinaldia | The framework for a new territorial strategy on Equality
↗ Social impact
#Berdinaldia is a new word in Basque formed by Berdintasuna (equality) and Belaunaldia (generation), which together also positions us in front of a new era (-aldia "time of"), where the youngest people prioritise and aspire to live in real equality, moving into action. Thus, #Berdinaldia becomes a new territorial strategy for equality.

Challenge: Empower the new generations to become key agents in the construction of an increasingly egalitarian society
The Department of Equality, Justice and Social Policies of the Basque Government, together with Emakunde–Basque Women's Institute, brought us the challenge of placing young people at the centre of the debate on equality and equity, generating a more open model of governance and making society aware of current problems from their own voices and realities. For this to happen, it is essential to create a space where the concerns of young people are gathered, which is integrating different groups into the debate on equality, from an intersectional vision.
All of this is framed within the international programme of UN Women: Generation Equality. Where Euskadi once again shows its commitment to alliances for equality, women's empowerment and climate justice.
Solution: #Berdinaldia — The New Wave of Change
#Berdinaldia refers to a generation and an era: Berdintasunaren Belaunaldia. The generation of young people who in the near future, in this era of berdinaldia, aspire to live in real equality. It is both an expectation and a present priority.
As a movement, it claims the essence of a new generation of young people who address the issue of equality as an identity. Without entering into primary debates, but by taking action.
#Berdinaldia voices
#Berdinaldia will help us to integrate the voices and experience of young people in strategic formats of Emakunde and the department such as: Gizonduz, Begira, the summer courses of the EHU-UPV, Hezkidetza, Beldur Barik... as well as becoming the flag to create new environments for awareness and dialogue on platforms such as Instagram (or TikTok).
Co-design of public policies
With #Berdinaldia new formats are activated for the co-design of public policies (Emakunde Laborategia) and for the visibility and support of female youth social entrepreneurship (#berdinaldia Gara). This will help us to integrate the interests and commitments of young people in the framework of the Country Pact for equality and for a society free of violence against women.
New equality pacts
In addition, #Berdinaldia gives us an exciting space for the creation of new alliances where we invite all the agents of the quadruple helix (public administrations, citizens, education and training centres and the private sector) to participate in the Pact and strengthen relations around SDG 5 (Gender equality and women's empowerment) in the Basque Country. We will align this effort with UN Women's Action Coalition, Coalitions for Action to create innovative and multi-agent partnerships around Technology and Innovation for Feminist Narrative Change and Climate Justice.
This new framework of #Berdinaldia, allowed the creation of a documentary called “La Nueva Ola del Cambio” (The New Wave of Change) produced by EITB and presented by Eider Hurtado, where the testimonies of new referents that are transforming the framework of equality in the Basque Country were collected, amplifying the experiences of groups that have been underrepresented until now.
